After the End: The Very Last Mushrooms is a reflection on mushrooms as a symbol of the capitalist apocalypse. Within abandoned structures and picked over forests, mushrooms are often the first sighting of new life. In the epoch of the anthropocene the narrative too regularly concludes with complete ecological destruction. There is still opportunity for growth in landscapes of decay. However, these landscapes affected by humans will never return to their original state but rather will always embody their human past. Mushrooms are the bridge between the desolate and the renaissance. The project consists of a series of cyanotypes and an assemblage of sculptures made with mushrooms I grew or foraged myself. The cyanotype photograms blur and distort the actual organism.
